Get to Know Us!
Hello! My name is Hannah Peterson, the human behind Rucksack Wilderness Collective. I believe in empowering individuals via connection with nature. Through guided outdoor adventures, I hope to inspire stewardship, foster a lasting appreciation for the natural world, and help you unveil a truly magical side of life. I’m so glad you’re here!

As a third generation Colorado resident, a love for outdoor spaces has been infused into many aspects of my life. Being outside was my first love, greatest passion, and best hobby all wrapped into one.
The idea for Rucksack Wilderness Collective originated to fill a gap in the outdoor industry. In 2021, Colorado’s outdoor industry contributed $11.6 billion to the states GDP, just behind oil and gas. Looking deeper into the services available to consumers I see a real lacking in inclusive guiding services. I hope to capture those that are looking to make the push into outdoor spaces and assist in getting to know them. If you’re new to the outdoors, doubting your ability, or just looking for a fun outing these trips will suit you well! We have a trip for every ability level.
The name Rucksack Wilderness Collective is an ode to my familial Colorado roots. My grandfather, Herman, was company B in the 86th regiment of the 10th Mountain Division back in WW2. The 10th Mountain Division was a U.S. Army unit trained in skiing and mountaineering, formed during World War II to fight in harsh, mountainous terrain. After seeing intense combat in the Italian Alps, many of its veterans returned home and played a major role in developing outdoor recreation in the United States. They founded or helped grow ski resorts like Vail and Aspen, started outdoor gear companies, and promoted skiing, hiking, and wilderness conservation, laying the foundation for the modern U.S. outdoor industry. Although the trips offered by RWC are a bit less rugged than those endured at Camp Hale by the 10th, the passion for sharing and protecting the outdoors remains a common thread, and an inspiration to us.
I’ve found that recreating outside can be one of the more fulfilling things in life and we’re so happy you’re here.
